Best cozy bars in northern NJ to warm up with a seasonal cocktail this winter

It’s that time of year when it’s getting too cold to do anything outside, but you are itching to leave your house. How do you handle this predicament? Go to a cozy bar, of course. Luckily, north Jersey is filled with some great comfy spots where you can curl up by the fire and sip on some winter-inspired cocktails. Here are some of our favorite bars in Hudson and Bergen counties.

1. Ho-Ho-Kus Inn & Tavern, Ho-Ho-Kus

This place is an upscale restaurant but has a casual Tavern that is cozy and seats up to 33 people. It includes a rustic bar and wood-burning fireplace along with a TV so that you can snuggle up by the fire and be comfortable.

Drink to try: Order the Frostini that includes vodka, Irish Cream, 1 ounce of Godiva white or dark chocolate liqueur and a splash of cream. A fun take on a martini, this drink will give you the nostalgia of having a hot chocolate by the fire.

2. The Shannon Rose, Ramsey

This spacious Irish-American pub has occasional live music and lots of drinks to choose from. The entire inside of the pub is composed of decorations shipped directly from Ireland. Anyone will fit in perfectly.

Drink to try: Irish Bulldog is the right choice at this bar. It consists of Baileys Irish cream, amaretto, Kahlua, and white crème de coco. It’s a hot drink that will warm you up on any cold day.

3. The Hamilton Inn, Jersey City

It’s small and quaint with tables for people that want a full on meal or a full bar for people that just want a quick drink. It was also voted one of the best restaurants for brunch so get there early and stay the rest of the day.

Drink to try: The Earl Grey Hot Toddy is a must get. It’s served in a coffee mug and for all the tea lovers — it contains organic early grey, Jameson, fresh lemon juice, and cloves. You’ll leave feeling warmer and maybe a little bit buzzed too.

4. The Archer, Jersey City

A hot sazerac will warm you up after the HDSID Christmas tree and Menorah lighting tonight!

This rustic cocktail bar has classic drinks along with a menu of bar bites all while sitting in dark wood digs. It will make you feel like you’re away in a remote winter location.

Drink to try: Make sure to sip on the Night Flight — consisting of Rhum Agricole, Lime, and Maple Syrup. It’s one of their classic drinks so you can’t go wrong ordering it.

5. The Shepherd & The Knucklehead, Hoboken

This place is well known for their extensive craft beer selection but they also have an impressive list of holiday-themed drinks! It’s cute little bar area is perfect for you to warm up at on a cold winter day. There are booths or bar stools so that you can relax and stay for a while.

Drink to try: The Winter Milkshake is the perfect cocktail for winter and will make you feel like a little kid again. This time the milkshake is for adults and has Absolut Elyx & Rhum JM with Sugar Cane, Pineapple Juice, and Fresh Whipped Cream. So delicious!

6. City Perch, Fort Lee

City Perch has a nice classy and modern ambiance feeling to it and is also very cozy inside. It has a lively environment despite being dimly lit and has some funky wall art and architectural pieces strewn about the bar area.

Drink to try: Order the Bourbon Mocha Alexander — it is made from Smooth Ambler West Virginia Bourbon, homemade crème de cacao, espresso, and Ronnybrook Farm cream. It will remind you of winter and you will be very happy with your order!
