Kelly Ripa says exercising at SoulCycle is like dancing in the club

When it comes to burning off those carbs and breaking a sweat, alternative exercise classes are all the rage. Whether it’s in Hollywood or right here in the Garden State, the most popular form of fun fitness is SoulCycle. Stratford native Kelly Ripa has always been vocal about her love for the American indoor cycling class and now she’s taking it one step further by comparing the workout to a night out at the club.

While we’ve always been fans of her acting abilities, we also admired her ability to maintain a healthy toned physique. Nowadays, the Live! with Kelly host swears by SoulCycle with instructor Stacey Griffith (for more than 10 years!). She admitted taking back-to-back classes reminds her of old memories of tearing up the dance floor in the club. The last time the 46-year-old mother of three remembers being heavily involved in the nightlife scene, she was underage. Now she can still listen to the same great music while getting in shape.

“You know when you’re in the club and the DJ gets to the really good part? You don’t just pick up your shoes and go home,” Kelly told Style of Sport. “You go, ‘I just have to get a sip of water and I’ll be right back.’ And that’s what the double is. You have to treat your first class like it’s your only class or you’ll half-step it through going ‘Well, I’ve got that second class.’”

One of her favorite things about spin classes is the way the instructors somehow manage to teach a large class, but still make you feel like all their attention is on you. Receiving personal inspiration in a group setting can go a long way when it comes to pushing yourself physically and mentally. This is exactly how I felt when I took my first CycleBar class in Wyckoff.

This isn’t the only way she stays in shape. Kelly has been exercising at AKT in Motion in New York with fitness trainer Anna Kaiser for years and she even goes running with her 19-year-old son Michael Joseph Consuelos. The Anna Kaiser Technique includes a lot of muscle-building like cardio dance training, resistance bands and weights.

“I like to say we started running together and I used to drag him. It was like dragging a puppy on a leash,” Kelly told Style of Sport. “Then he started running where I was saying ‘Wait, wait, wait up. I can’t keep up with you.’ Now we start together and he says, ‘I’ll see you back home.’ ”

Keep it up Kelly, you look amazing!
