October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and here at OMJ we’re chronicling lots of the social events happening in the local Bergen and Hudson County areas! On Saturday, Hackensack University Medical Center Fitness (HackensackUMC) and Wellness Center, powered by the Giants, held a Zumbathon to as a fun way to get in shape while also bringing attention to the importance of women’s health.
There was nothing but positive energy radiating from the Zumba class as I walked into the room. The music was blasting, the attendees (both men and women) were actively dancing along to the music and the instructors and all we could see was a sea of pink-themed clothing as we looked out into the huge crowd. They also happened to be joined by a special guest, retired Giants linebacker Jessie Armstead, who admitted trying to follow the dance moves was harder than some of his NFL practice drills.
He wasn’t joking! We tried our best to quickly catch on to the face-pace beats, but it was easier said than done! The facility provided two full hours of laughs, burned calories and fundraiser event we’d never forget! The good times didn’t end there. Lucky winners of the drawing were then awarded some fabulous prizes!
All the proceeds from the event will be donated to the Betty Torricelli Foundation.
