I took years off my skin with a Depasquale microdermabrasion

For many women, when they hear the word microdermabrasion, the first word that comes to mind is painful. Trust me when I say, this couldn’t be anything farther from the truth. I just had my very first microdermabrasion facial at Depasquale The Spa and I live to tell the tale. This deep exfoliating treatment removes dead skin to clear the way for even skin tone, clarity, and collagen production. The older I get, the more educated I am on caring for my skin. I have learned that it is all about maintenance. Just like you need to take your car in for an oil change every couple months, you need to start doing the same for your skin. If you truly want to start seeing results, facials cannot be a one-time thing.

A microdermabrasion from Depasquale is the perfect way to begin your journey to amazing skin. This iconic Morris Plains spa and salon offers an abundance of luxurious facials to fit your every need, ranging from age-defying to deep cleansing. One of the most important lessons I learned during my visit is that you must routinely receive facials in order to gain the maximum benefits. Just going one time won’t cut it, although you will most definitely see an improvement during your inaugural visit.

My healthy skin care journey began with my microdermabrasion with one of Depasquale’s top esthetician’s Kim, who has been with the spa since 1997 (so I knew I was in excellent hands!). Depasquale is not only one of the Garden State’s most high-end spas, but they are also an award-winning hair salon, having been widely recognized for their color and design artistry. When I arrived for my Thursday afternoon appointment the salon was bustling, but once I entered through the large glass doors into their spa, I was quickly transported to the most idyllic and serene atmosphere, and the hectic hair and beauty parlor was quickly a memory of the past. Once inside ‘the quiet room’ guests at Depasquale are treated to private steam rooms, a complimentary cappuccino bar, delectable treats, and complete and total relaxation. After sipping on a green tea while lounging on their palatial sofas, Kim greeted me and brought me inside my private room to begin my journey to amazing skin.

Kim began by cleansing and toning my skin with Cures Gentle Cleansing Milk and Sea Mist Toner. Next it was time for her to analyze my skin. She shined an intense light onto my face, and was quickly able to identify my skin type and problem spots with a quick, but thorough look. She told me my sensitive skin was on the dry side, especially around my cheeks, mainly due to the change in the season. She suggested a thick moisturizing cream at night, and told me that today’s facial will help add some much needed relief to my parched skin.

After that she did a light exfoliation with an enzymatic peel under steam. This was surprisingly one of the most relaxing parts for me. Kim told me that not everyone is a fan of steaming, but I absolutely loved it, and found it to be very soothing. After that, Kim gave my skin some much-needed extractions to remove oil and unclog my pores. I wear heavy makeup on a daily basis, and although I’m meticulous every night with cleansing and exfoliating, my pores still tend to get clogged very easily.

Now it’s the moment you’ve been waiting for: the microdermabrasion. It is a sand-blast facial that exfoliates and removes the outermost layer of dry, dead skin cells by using a spray of microcrystals. It reveals younger, healthier looking skin by helping fine lines and hyperpigmentation, and increasing collagen (which is key to wrinkle reduction). It was my first time receiving one, so of course I was a tad bit nervous. Kim assured me that it wouldn’t be uncomfortable, and she could always lower the level if it felt too rough on my skin. The machine itself looks quite intimidating, but this facial was anything but. The best way to describe what is felt like is a gentle vacuum sucking on your face. Other says it feels like a cat’s tongue licking you (I cannot attest to that description). I only had Kim lower the level when she went over more sensitive areas like my cheeks. Ten minutes later and it was all done, and my skin felt squeaky clean!

Since a microdermabrasion can be a bit rough on the skin (but certainly nothing the most sensitive people can’t handle) Kim then gave my face some well deserved nourishment with a re-elasticizing mask layered with Vitamin C Cérum. It is best to have this mask poured all over your face, including your eyes (although you don’t have to), so it can hit the hard to reach areas that are in most need of a strong burst of moisture. I’m up for anything, so I had no problem going full monty on this one. You’ll feel an immediate cooling sensation once this mask hits your skin, and then for the next 10 minutes you will be in heaven.

After Kim removed the mask (it peels right off), she applied Cures Age Defyer Daily Moisturizer and Age Defyer Eye to replenish my skin, and then sadly that was the end of one of the most amazing and relaxing hours I have ever experienced. Of course I immediately looked in the mirror to see if I could tell a difference in my tone and clarity.  I was absolutely amazed at how dewey my skin looked, and it actually glowed. I mean, no joke,  it was literally glowing. It not only looked beautiful, but it felt so amazing. My skin actually felt so fresh and clean. I also swear it took some years off!  It’s a feeling that I can’t describe, but is one that highly recommend you experience for yourself.

I am now one week out from my microdermabrasion, and I’m happy to report that I do not have a single blemish, I have seen a reduction in some of my fine lines, and my skin is still radiating with a beautiful glow. I’m ready to go back for another, but sadly I’ll have to wait. Kim recommends that I receive this facial every 2-3 months, although keep in mind everyone is different, so you may not have to go as often as me, or you could have to go more frequently. I cannot recommend this procedure enough. Whatever fears you had about receiving a microdermabrasion, you can now comfortably put to rest. This will be a total game changer for your skin care routine. I used to be skeptical of expensive facials and procedures, but now I don’t know how I have been living for so long without them. Trust me, a microdermabrasion from Depasquale will change your life (and skin) in the best way possible.
