Kelly Clarkson is the latest celebrity to team up with the Wyckoff Family YMCA and Books Bytes and Beyond to bring you ‘Conversations with Authors.’ The Grammy Award-winning artist visited the Bergen County athletic center on Wednesday night as part of her promotional book tour for her new children’s picture book River Rose and the Magical Lullaby. Fans were in for a real treat, as the singer participated in a short Q & A session, book signing, as well as, an unforgettable impromptu serenade!
A long line of adoring fans wrapped around the YMCA, anxiously awaiting the arrival of the Season 2 American Idol winner! Once inside, it was clear to see just how many people she’s inspired during her career and the impact she’s having on the younger generation.
So what inspired her to write River Rose and the Magical Lullaby? The “Because of You” songstress cites her 2-year-old daughter River Rose, constant encouragement from her mom Jeanne Taylor (a retired educator) and her love for reading. In fact, Roald Dahl‘s Matilda played a big role during her childhood and is listed as one of her favorite books.
“She’s really kind of a mixture of what I was as a child and who I thought my daughter would be.,” Kelly admitted when describing the main book’s main character. “She’s fun, disheveled and kind of like Punky Brewster. Someone who you kind of laugh at and not so much with. I just thought she would be a fun lovable little character for kids to relate to as well.”
During the Q&A portion, the 34-year-old mother of four (including 4-month old Remington Alexander, River Rose and step-children Savannah and Seth with husband Brandon Blackstock), also proved her vocal abilities are still in perfect condition as she sang the lullaby from the book and read passages from the book. Kelly was greeted with a roar of applause and smiling faces.
Are we the only ones wishing we had Kelly to sing to us as a child? Yeah, we didn’t think so..
