Oprah Winfrey reveals her favorite diet foods.

Oprah Winfrey been open about her weight struggles for years and inspired countless fans to shed the pounds. In the ’80’s, the TV show host lost 67 pounds on a liquid diet, but then quickly regained 17 of those pounds a year later. The roller coaster was something that followed her up until 2015 when she joined Weight Watchers. She lost nearly 30 pounds on their Beyond The Scale program and has been open yet again about how she did it.

While exercise has become a part of her daily routine, there are some diet tricks she’s learned on the program where she can indulge and stay healthy. So, what are some of her favorite foods?

We broke down 8 and where you can find them in northern New Jersey.

1. Tea

Oprah loves sipping on tea so much she actually launched Teavana Oprah Chai tea, which features an infusion of cinnamon, ginger, cardamom and cloves. While you can pick it up at any Starbucks, there is also a Teavana store in Garden State Plaza in Paramus where you can taste a variety of other teas to keep your digestive system in top shape.

2. Bread

We know what you’re thinking: bread can’t be a good diet food. Well, Oprah still swears by it, just in moderation. Luckily, Bergen County is filled with amazing bakeries were you can get all types of homemade and fresh breads to help you feel satisfied while trying to lose some weight.

3. Infused Water

Drinking half your body weight in ounces of water a day is crucial to obtaining that slender figure. But, if you’re anything like Oprah, you hate the bland taste. That’s why she tricks herself into drinking ginger-vanilla infused water. An easy way to make one on the go is grabbing a Quirky Cupanion 18 oz. Glass Fruit Infuser Water Bottle from Bed, Bath & Beyond in Ramsey. They make it easy for you to include fresh fruit into your water.

4. Fresh Picked Fruits and Veggies

If you have a mansion like Oprah’s, you’re bound to have a garden on the property. She posts on Instagram all the time when it’s time to harvest everything from kale and zucchini to artichokes and fava beans. If you don’t have the space or time to cultivate a garden of your own, not to worry. New Jersey is filled with pick-your-own gardens like Abma’s Farm in Wyckoff.

Oprah is one of the many people who is a fan of avocado toast and there’s a reason. It’s packed with healthy fats and proteins and is delicious. While she prefers to make hers with turkey, blogger Hoboken Girl did her due diligence to find some of the best restaurants in Hoboken that make the delectable treat like Black Rail Coffee on 9th and Jackson. Here at OMJ we are a huge fan of the egg-topped avocado toast at Short Grain in downtown Jersey City.

While Oprah declared that Beecher’s cheese smothered noodles were her favorite, she doesn’t eat them so much anymore. That doesn’t mean the billionaire still doesn’t get a craving once in a while like the rest of us. To indulge without ruining your diet Barbara Mintz, MS, RD, Vice President of Healthy Living, and Community and Employee Wellness, RWJBarnabas Health in Newark, gave NJ.com a great alternative recipe. Check it out here.

7. Jicama

You may not be able to pronounce it, but it should certainly be on your diet. Pronounced HE-kuh-muh, it’s Oprah’s favorite veggie. “I love jicama because you get a crunch,” she recently said in an interview. It can easily be found in a health food store or even a major retailer like Wegmans soon coming to Montvale.

8. Crab Cakes
