I recently had the pleasure of chatting with celebrity stylist Robert Verdi about his fabulous line of handbags, Great Bag Co, at the Maplewood native’s exclusive trunk show at Madonna & Co. His new ‘It’ bag is a versatile and stylish molded rubber tote, that doesn’t slouch, and is roomy enough for us ladies who have a tendency to overpack. They are sleek, chic, and super affordable, and can be seen on the arms of some of the hottest stars, from Eva Longoria, to Real Housewives of Atlanta’s Cynthia Bailey, and J. Alexander. While discussing his fabulous collection, I couldn’t help but ask about his Jersey roots, and he was more than happy to oblige.

Robert was born and raised in Maplewood, and while he doesn’t live here anymore (he’s in NYC), he still loves to come back to visit. He tells me it doesn’t matter where in NJ he goes, he just loves coming home, “‘I’m all Jersey, all the time if I can be. I have so many friends who have moved back to Jersey, so I just sort of roll with the punches.”

One place he certainly does love is the Jersey Shore. “Growing up I used to go to Manasquan. That was like my beach. Now I go to LBI because I have a friend that has a house there that I visit.”

The long-time TV personality also loves to visit his hometown. He says, “I still drive past my old house every time I’m in Jersey. I still go to The Mall at Short Hills. I used to work at the Bloomingdales there.”

Anyone else thinking that Robert should open up a Great Bag Co. store here in the Garden State!? In the meantime, you can shop the collection online, and in stores at Macy’s.
